FAQ

Quick answers to questions we hear often. If yours isn't covered, email hello@tranzopos.com and we'll add it.

Getting started

Do I need a card to start the trial?

No. The 14-day trial is fully open — no card, no commitment. After 14 days, we email an invoice for the plan you've selected.

Which devices does Tranzo POS work on?

Android phones and tablets, Windows laptops and desktops, and any modern web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). iOS app is on the roadmap but not available yet.

Can I use Tranzo POS offline?

Yes — the Android and Windows apps support offline POS. Sales ring up locally and sync when you reconnect. The web app requires internet.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Any Android phone or Windows laptop works. Optional add-ons: a thermal receipt printer (we recommend any 80mm USB or Bluetooth printer with ESC/POS support), a barcode scanner (the phone's camera works), and a cash drawer (any standard one wired to your printer).

Payments

Does Tranzo POS take a cut of my sales?

No. We charge a flat monthly subscription. Card payments via Pesapal incur Pesapal's fees (paid to them, not us), and M-Pesa till payments incur Safaricom's fees (paid to them, not us). What you charge customers, you keep — minus your payment provider's fees.

How long does it take to receive card payments?

Settlement is between you and Pesapal — usually T+1 or T+2 to your bank. Tranzo POS just shows the sale as paid; the money flows separately.

Can I refund a card payment?

Refunds happen through Pesapal's merchant dashboard, not Tranzo. Tranzo can mark the sale as voided (which reverses stock and loyalty), but the money refund is initiated by you on Pesapal.

Data and privacy

Where is my data stored?

On Google Cloud Platform servers in the europe-west region. We follow Kenya's Data Protection Act for handling customer data. See our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Every report has CSV export. We can also provide a full database export on request — email us.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Retained for 90 days after cancellation, then deleted. You can request export during the retention window.

Is Tranzo POS KDPA compliant?

Yes. We collect only what's necessary, store it securely, support data export and deletion requests, and never sell customer data. Full details in the Privacy Policy.

Compliance

Is Tranzo POS eTIMS compliant?

Yes. We're integrated with KRA's eTIMS via the OSCU. Every sale generates a tax-compliant receipt with FDN, QR code, and invoice number — automatically. See the eTIMS guide.

Does Tranzo POS handle VAT correctly?

Yes. Set the right tax rate per product (16% standard, 0% zero-rated, exempt) and we calculate VAT correctly on every sale and report.

Pricing and billing

Can I change plans?

Yes, anytime. Upgrade is immediate. Downgrade takes effect next billing cycle. See Subscription & billing.

Do you offer discounts for annual billing?

Not yet — annual plans are on the roadmap.

Do you offer non-profit discounts?

Yes, 25% off any plan. Email us with proof of registration.

Support

What's your support response time?

1 business day for standard tickets. Same business day for Enterprise customers. Within 2 hours for "URGENT" issues during business hours.

Do you do onboarding sessions?

Yes for Enterprise customers, included in the plan. For Starter and Growth, we have docs (this site!) and the in-app help (`?` button on every screen). If you need a 1:1 walkthrough, email us — we sometimes accommodate for free, sometimes for a small setup fee depending on scope.

Where can I report bugs or request features?

Email hello@tranzopos.com. We read everything. Roadmap items typically ship within a few weeks; bug fixes within days.

The company

Who builds Tranzo POS?

A Kenya-based team. We started building in 2024 specifically for African SMBs. Most POS systems are built for Western retail and bolted-on to fit local realities like M-Pesa, eTIMS, and intermittent connectivity. We started from those realities.

Is Tranzo POS funded?

Bootstrapped. Profitable monthly subscriptions, not VC-burning growth. We're here for the long haul.
